Subhash Adi demands CBI probe

June 28, 2015 01:07 pm | Updated 01:07 pm IST - Bengaluru/Udupi:

Differences between Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao and Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi over handing of probe into corruption charges in the office of the Lokayukta took a turn on Saturday with the latter demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Mr. Adi, who had opposed probe by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) ordered by Mr. Rao on Friday, told The Hindu on Saturday that the CCB probe would lack sanctity, and that the Lokayukta should write to the government seeking a CBI probe into the issue.

“I am not against any individual. My concern is about the institution and I will work within the legal frame work to safeguard its interests,” he said, and added that it was heartrending to see people losing faith in the institution.

Meanwhile, in Udupi he said, “I had told Mr. Rao to wait and see what would come out of the probe by (Lokayukta Superintendent of Police) Sonia Narang and then decide. I had given orders for the probe in writing. I do not know why Mr. Rao hurriedly took a decision to have the allegation probed by the CCB? I had not agreed to anything nor did I know about it,” Mr. Adi clarified.

He said the CCB was a police organisation and did investigations only if there was a first information report (FIR). The CCB comes under the jurisdiction of the Lokayukta. “So I do not know how far the investigation by the CCB is correct,” he added."
