In a clear violation of Right to Education Act as well as Protection of Children’s Rights Act, a private school in Kolar scolded and sent seven students out of classrooms for non-payment of school fees on Monday.

R.L. Jalappa Central School, an institution run by Sri Devaraj Urs Academy for Higher Education and research, located at Tam on the outskirts of Kolar has been criticised for such actions. The parents of these children are employees of the parent organisation.

The students were also made to stand under the sun in the school premises for several hours.

The parents rushed to the school as soon as they heard the news and argued with the management. Block Education Officer B. Jagadish visited the school based on the complaint by the parents but did not initiate any action against the school, the parents alleged.

The parents of the seven students are employees of the parent organisation and received 50 per cent fee concession for their wards education. The remaining fee was being deducted from the monthly salaries. “But, our children were forced out of classrooms on Monday without notice,” the parents Somanna, Stanely Jones and Srinivas said.

While the principal of the school, Pattabhiraman has maintained that the parents of these students were no more employees of the organisation and hence they were asked to pay full fees, some of the parents have said they still are on the pay rolls.
