The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed till September 4 further proceedings against former Minister D.K. Shivakumar and two others before a special court, which had refused to discharge them from a case of wilfully attempting to evade tax and filing false income tax statement, booked against him by the Income Tax Department last year.

Justice B.A. Patil passed the interim order applicable till September 4 on the separate petitions filed by Mr. Shivakumar, and two other accused persons, Anjaneya H. and Rajendra N.

The petitioners had questioned the June 25, 2019 order of the Special Court, constituted to exclusively deal with criminal cases related to MPs and MLAs in Karnataka, rejecting their plea for discharging them from the case.

The I-T Dept. had also alleged that Mr. Shivakumar, and four others, had engaged in transporting huge amounts of “unaccounted cash on regular basis through hawala channels”.
