State to help displaced Kannadigas in Goa

The State government plans to provide housing sites to displaced Kannadigas in Goa.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting of top officials on Tuesday and directed Karnataka State Border Area Development Authority chairman Baburao Chinchansur to conduct a survey on the number of Kannadigas and families living in Goa and their social and economic conditions. Mr Chinchansur has been directed to complete the survey as soon as possible to ensure early rehabilitation of the displaced.

Based on the survey, the government will purchase land in Goa and have a housing colony developed, sources close to the CM’s office said.

The Goa government recently demolished houses of Kannadigas near Baina beach without making alternative or rehabilitation arrangements.
