State ranking badminton event from tomorrow

: The Udupi District Badminton Association in collaboration with the Karnataka Badminton Association will organise the first Prakash Kodavoor Memorial State Ranking Junior Badminton Tournament at the District Indoor Stadium here from May 14 to 17.

K. Raghupati Bhat, former MLA and President of Udupi District Badminton Association, told reporters here on Thursday 252 entries have been received for nine events.

The qualifying rounds for Under-19 Boys and Under-17 Boys will be held on May 14. The main draw will be held from May 15 to 17. A total of 111 matches will be held during the tourney.

Some of the ranking players who will participate are: Under-17 Boys Singles: Mayuresh Janpandit (Seed No. 1), Sai Pratheek (Seed No. 2), Bhargav S. Gowda (Seed No. 3), Shamanth Rao Kidiyoor (Seed No. 4), Avinash S. (Seed No. 5).

Under-17 Girls Singles: Sheetal D. (Seed No. 1), Aanchal Dhawan (Seed No. 2), Dhaarin Ravi Kumar (Seed No. 3), Akhila Anand (Seed No. 4), Jayashree G. (Seed No. 5).

Under-19 Boys Singles: Balaraj Kajla (Seed No. 1), Anirudh S. Despanday (Seed No. 2), Kiran B. (Seed No. 4), Ganesh Vittalgi (Seed No. 5).

Under 19 Girls: Apeksha Nayak (Seed No. 10, Archana Pai (Seed No. 2), Savitha R.N. (Seed No. 3), Sriraksha S. (Seed No. 4), Risha R. Shetty (Seed No. 5).

The District Badminton Association has been giving coaching to young players for the last five years.
