It may be implemented in July-end

As farmers are in trouble owing to drought in the last four years, the State government has decided to take up cloud seeding in the last week of July or in first week of August this year, Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has said.

Speaking after inaugurating a Raitha Samparka Kendra at Maadadakere village in Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga district on Wednesday, he said that there are hopes that the State may receive ample rainfall in the coming weeks.

And, if the State fails to receive enough rainfall, the government would take up cloud seeding.

The government has made necessary preparations for this and it would implement it after studying the situation thoroughly.

Keeping in view the plight of the farmers, the government has decided to waive farm loans taken from all co-operative banks, he said and added that the Union government should now waive farm loans taken from nationalised banks.

State BJP leaders should pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to waive farm loans taken from nationalised banks.

“Instead of putting pressure on the Union government to waive farm loans, the BJP leaders are trying to misguide the people by issuing false statements against the State government,” he alleged.

He said that the State government is committed to protecting the interests of farmers by extending them necessary facilities under different schemes, and the farmers should make proper use of these schemes.

Hosadurga MLA B.G. Govindappa said that amid hardships, the State government has taken steps to waive loans of farmers and is also extending them other facilities.

Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat president Soubhagya Basavarajan was present.
