Loan waiver will not be stopped, says Yediyurappa

Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that the government will cancel some of the old schemes of the previous governments and divert the funds to carry out flood-relief works. He, however, did not specify which schemes will be stopped.

Speaking to reporters at Sirigere in Chitradurga district on Tuesday, he clarified that the previous government’s loan waiver scheme will not be stopped and will be done in phases.

In August, the Chief Minister faced with criticism that his government was cutting allocations to welfare schemes, had said that he had no plans of cutting funds for those such as Anna Bhagya.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence of getting financial assistance from the Union government in four or five days to undertake flood relief and drought-relief works in the State.

₹2,500 crore released

The State government has already released ₹2,500 crore to undertake construction of roads, bridges and houses in flood-affected areas in the State, said the Chief Minister.

“Ever since I became the Chief Minister, I’m facing one hurdle or the other. I’m facing agnipareekshe (trial by fire),” said Mr. Yediyurappa, adding that he was ready to face it “by the grace of God and the blessings of the seers.”
