Minister of State for Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda, on Thursday, said the State government was expecting the Centre to release funds for drought-relief works.

The Central government had sent officers to study the severity of drought in the State. “The officers submitted a report to the Centre and we are expecting financial support to take up drought-relief works,” the Minister told presspersons in Kadur.

Interaction with farmers

Mr. Byre Gowda visited drought-hit farms in Ballakere, Yagati, Hochihalli, Honnenahalli, and other villages in the taluk. During the farms, he interacted with farmers and listened to their problems.

Mr. Byre Gowda said the State government had released Rs. 2 crore each to all districts to take up relief work. “Farmers had borrowed loans from cooperative banks and nationalised banks. However, over 80 per cent of loan was borrowed from nationalised banks. The Centre had to take a call on waiving loan borrowed from nationalised banks,” he said.

Officials have submitted a report to the Centre. We are expecting financial support from the Centre to take up drought-relief works
