Special ballet on Gandhijito be launched tomorrow

“Papu Gandhi, Gandhi Bapu”, a special ballet created by Rangayana Dharwad on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi will be inaugurated at a function to be held at the Golden Jubilee Hall of Karnatak University here on August 9.

Rangayana Dharwad director Pramod Shiggaon told presspersons here on Tuesday that Kannada and Culture Minister Jaimala would inaugurate this ballet and also release the eighth reprint of Boluwar Mohammad Kunhi’s novel published by the department at 6 p.m.

It would be followed by the staging of the first edition of this ballet.

Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA Arvind Bellad, Kannada Book Authority chairperson Vasundhara Bhupati, Department of Pre-University Education director C. Shikha, Department of Kannada and Culture director N.R. Vishukumar, Vice-Chancellor Pramod Gai, Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa and others would participate in the programme.

This special theatre performance has been created by the artistes of Rangayana Dharwad to disseminate Gandhian ideals among the public, especially the younger generation through the medium of theatre.

It is based on the novel “Papu Gandhi Gandhi Bapu Ada Kathe” by eminent novelist Boluwar Mohammad Kunhi.

Nearly 30 artistes would participate in play directed by Sripad Bhat. It would be staged all across the State till the end of December 2018. This apart, Rangayana would hold a seminar on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate the occasion, Mr. Shiggaon added.

Two teams of artistes have been formed to stage this ballet in different places of the State. The first team, headed by Ranjita Jadhav, would perform in Haveri, Gadag, Ballari, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Bidar and Vijayapura districts from August 10 to October 10. In the second phase, the same team would stage the ballet in Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Davangere, Chitradurga and Tumakuru districts from October 25 to December 15.

The second team, headed by Madhwaraj, would perform in Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Ramanagaram from August 10 to October 10 and in the districts of Chikkamagalur, Hassan, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban from October 25 to December 15, 2018. It has been planned to hold total of 800-850 shows throughout the State, he said.

Seminar

Karnatak University’s Gandhian Study Chair chairman Shivanand Shettar said that a seminar on the relevance of Gandhian ideals would be held on the university campus here on August 9 at 10 a.m. Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa would inaugurate the seminar and Mr. Vishukumar would preside over the inaugural session. Different scholars and academics would present papers on the occasion, he said.
