As many as 75,000 are eligible to get crop insurance amount soon

At a time when farmers are in distress due to the heavy downpour and floods in various streams and rivulets, there is some relief for those in Dharwad district as crop loss compensation for last year’s rabi season has been released.

A total of 75,638 farmers had registered for the Karnataka Raitha Suraksha Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the 2018 rabi crops, and 75,000 of them would be getting crop insurance amount soon.

Even as farmers in the district were recovering from the crop loss during the last year’s rabi season, the rain washed away their dream of getting a good yield during the kharif season this year.

The government has released ₹ 149.60 crore crop loss compensation to Dharwad district and the process of remitting the amount to the bank accounts of the farmers has begun, the officials said. The officials said that two months ago, the crop insurance for the last kharif season was released benefiting 48,801 farmers. A total of ₹ 114.03 crore was paid to them.

For crop loss survey, a total of 272 teams were formed in 144 gram panchayats. The village accountants had documented the crop loss in the Darshak App, the officials said.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that crop insurance for 364 paddy growers in Alnavar and Dharwad taluk has been withheld due to some technical reasons and the officials have said that they were pursing the issue.
