Waste segregation centre inaugurated

Deputy Commissioner (DC) S. Sasikanth Senthil inaugurated a new solid waste segregation unit at Eeklaspur landfill site, about 5 km from here recently.

The DC, about seven months ago, introduced a labour-intensive solid waste management in the city that ensured participation of pourakarmikas as well as residents in keeping the city clean by segregating the waste at source.

The new unit has been established at a cost of Rs. 35 lakh, of which Rs. 25 lakh was contributed by Hutti Goldmines Ltd., a State-owned company, from its corporate social responsibility funds.
