Social activist Geeta, who along with her husband Dr. Santosh Kumar Potdar led a 2,500-km long walkathon from her native Telasanga village of Athani taluk to New Delhi to spread awareness against the misuse of Section 498 A of IPC and to build a national consensus for setting up of a ‘National Commission for Men’ recently, is struggling between life and death.
She has been suffering from dengue and severe fever for the last four days and is presently undergoing treatment at Al-Ameen Hospital at Vijayapura. With the doctors attending her suggesting that she be shifted to Hyderabad, or to get treated by specialists, the Potdar couple are looking for help from members of the public to meet the increasing cost of treatment.
Dr. Potdar, who resigned from the post of Associate Professor at Al-Ameen Medical College two years ago to form the ‘Bhagat Singh Batallion for Injustice in India’ two years ago, said his wife had been actively involved in the movement at the expense of her health. The couple led the walkathon from Telsang on February 20 and reached New Delhi on April 22, and held interactions with different sections of the society to evolve consensus on the need to amend the law to a ‘gender-neutral’ law.
