Smart city: poor turn out for essay contest

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - DHARWAD:

Is Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) conducting awareness programmes on Smart City project only for the sake of conducting them?

It seems so, considering the poor turnout at an essay competition held in connection with the awareness campaign on the Smart City project here on Sunday. The competition was held on the HDMC office premises here. Nearly 24 staff were deputed for this purpose and seating arrangements made for nearly 200 persons. Just 12 students turned up for the event.

Senior lawyer N.C. Patil said it was a pity that the municipal authorities failed to ensure sufficient student turn-out at the programme. Mr. Patil said there were nearly 70 schools in Dharwad. The HDMC could have ensured a minimum of four students from each school took part.
