As many as two lakh leaflets are being distributed among citizens of the twin cities seeking suggestions on developing Hubballi-Dharwad as a smart city, Commissioner of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) C.M. Noor Mansoor has said.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day exhibition of khadi and village industries products titled ‘Swadeshi-15’ organised by Global College, Lingarajnagar, in association with organisations such as the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangha, here on Saturday. Mr. Noor Mansoor said that the municipal corporation would organise interaction programmes to deliberate on the suggestions before finalising the proposal for the smart city. The suggestions should be compiled and fine tuned while submitting the proposal to the Union government, he said.

Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Ashwini Majjagi said that the role of citizens was crucial in transforming the twin cities. She said October 10 was the last date for submitting the suggestions, which would be submitted to the State government by November 15.

Freedom fighter S.V. Tembe inaugurated the exhibition. He said that khadi was like the roots for rural development and if khadi got nourishment, it would facilitate development of villages. Mr. Tambe and his wife, Sharayu, were felicitated.

In all, 70 stalls including food stalls have been erected on the college premises. The exhibition will conclude on Sunday evening.
