The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) has decided to organise an exhibition-cum-sale of silk products outside Karnataka from Thursday to ensure that Mysore silk products reach every corner of the country, Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Chairman D. Basavaraj has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that exhibition has been organised for two days from Wednesday at Hyderabad, from Friday at Puducherry and from November 4 at Chennai. The Puducherry exhibition would be inaugurated by Chief Secretary of Puducherry and the exhibition at Chennai would be inaugurated by Nalini Chidambaram, the wife for former Union Minister P. Chidambaram.

The committee constituted to study the condition of silk industry has submitted its report to the government and as per its recommendations the State government has been appealed to release a total of Rs. 535 crore for the industry. It has clearly mentioned that the major reason for decline in sale of silk products in the country is reduction of import tax from 35 per cent to 10 per cent by the USnion government, he added.

Answering a question, Mr. Basavaraj informed that the corporation has recorded a transaction of Rs. 146 crore in the current financial year, in which it has earned a net profit of Rs. 27 crore. The corporation has also donated a total of Rs. 90 lakh towards compensation to families of deceased farmers in the State, he said.
