Silence of good people disturbs me: Kannan Gopinathan

Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, who resigned from the service in August over “suppression of freedom of expression” and abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, said he was “more disturbed by the silence of good people than atrocities committed by the administration.”

He was speaking at an interaction on ‘Civil Rights in India and Challenges’ here on Tuesday organised by Karnataka Chapter of Concerned Citizens of India (CCI) at the UVCE Alumni Association. He said that people must understand the importance of dissent in a democracy.

On the National Register of Citizens, he said it would lead to destruction of democracy in the country and create rifts.
