Siemens’ centre of excellence opens at NIE


Aims to equip students, working professionals with the latest, futuristic industry-relevant skills

The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru inaugurated the NIE-Siemens Technical Centre in collaboration with German major Siemens here on its campus.

N.R. Narayana Murthy, Director, NIE Management Committee, inaugurated the Centre of Excellence while Srinath Batni, President, NIE Management Committee, presided over the event.

The Siemens’ Centre of Excellence aims to equip students and professionals with the latest and futuristic industry-relevant skills. The initiative will improve employability and assist in better placements for students, according to the NIE.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narayana Murthy, Infosys co-founder, said, “Automation is the future for engineers, not just for mechanical but to all other streams. The colleges must prepare students for the future. The students must be able to challenge their teachers and the teachers must be able to rise and meet these challenges. So, students should carry out projects in companies like Siemens to understand the practical aspects of any software.”

Speaking on the collaboration, Rahul Sehgal, Director-Business Development, Siemens Industry Software (India), said, “Companies such as Siemens are putting in efforts to aid colleges like NIE to connect with the industry and the world market to achieve its goals”.

G. Ravi, Principal, NIE, Mysuru; and M.V. Achyutha, Professor and Head, Mechanical Engineering, NIE, Mysuru, were also present.

The Siemens Technical Centre is an interdisciplinary, industry-backed centre focused on developing excellence in skills for the automotive, aerospace and defence, industrial machinery, marine and factory automation sector. Through training and implementation of industry–relevant technologies and processes, the centre aims to facilitate a multi-disciplinary learning environment across science, technology, engineering and management faculties, a press release said here.

The centre is designed to meet the demands of the industry’ ever-changing processes and help build skills around collaborations and innovations. It will leverage Siemens’ platform to draw upon expertise from various industries and provide its partners with knowledge.
