Siddaramaiah’s faux pas

July 19, 2019 01:29 am | Updated 01:29 am IST - BENGALURU

Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday made a faux pas prompting the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members in the Assembly to burst into peels of laughter.

Instead of saying “I am the Congress Legislature Party leader”, Mr. Siddaramaiah, while referring to the matter related to issuing of whip, said, “I am the Leader of the Opposition”.

Admitting that it was a slip of the tongue, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he was used to describing himself as Leader of the Opposition as he had served in that position for four years. Ridiculing the BJP for laughing at his slip, he said, “ Look how happy you are just because I said I am the Leader of the Opposition. You are in a hurry to occupy the third floor of the Vidhana Soudha [coming to power].”
