He says BJP govt. has failed on flood-relief front, seeks resignation of Amit Shah, Yediyurappa

Expressing confidence of winning 12 of the total 15 Assembly seats in the forthcoming byelections, Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, has predicted that mid-term elections would be held for the State Assembly soon in which the Congress would register a thumping victory.

He was speaking at Chaitanya Samavesha, a convention of the Congress, in the city on Tuesday.

Alleging that the BJP government in the State had failed to manage the relief operations in flood-affected areas, he said that the Centre has failed to release ample funds to Karnataka for extending compensation for the affected families and to execute relief works. Expressing ire that the administration machinery has come to a standstill under BJP rule, he said that “transferring of bureaucrats for the sake of money and for political reasons” was the only achievement of the BJP government in 100 days. The people are unhappy they would teach a lesson to the BJP for the ‘misgovernance’ in the byelection, he said.

Referring to the statement of H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister, that the Janata Dal (Secular) would not allow the State government to fall, he said that, “We are not bothered about the political moves of the JD(S). The Congress would strive to end the rule of the BJP.”

Demanding that Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, and B.S. Yediyurappa, Chief Minister, resign from their posts for their alleged role in the resignation of MLAs that resulted in the end of coalition rule , he said that the BJP has come to power in Karnataka by subverting the Constitution and the people’s mandate.

‘Lure of money, position’

“The audio clip of the speech rendered by Mr. Yediyurappa at a meeting of the BJP held in Hubballi, in which he has admitted that Mr. Shah oversaw the resignations of 17 MLAs that paved way for the collapse of JD(S)-Congress coalition government, has become public. The MLAs were lured by offering money and ministerial positions. It is apparent that the defection was executed at the behest of Mr. Shah and Mr. Yediyurappa,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

Suspecting the role of Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP State president, and Lakshman Savadi, Deputy Chief Minister, in the leakage of the audio clip, he said that, as both have differences with Mr. Yediyurappa they might have made the audio clips public to embarrass him. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will uphold the decision taken by K.R. Ramesh Kumar, previous Speaker, on disqualification of MLAs.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee; S.R. Patil, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council; B.K. Sangameshwara, Bhadravathi MLA; R. Prasanna Kumar, MLC; and H.S. Sundaresh, president of Shivamogga District Congress Committee, were present.
