A leopard was trapped near Hadagali on Sunday.

Efforts being put in by the Forest Department to trap the still elusive leopard, which had killed a person near Siddapur in Sandur taluk on Wednesday, was yet to yield results.

On Sunday, the leopard had killed a calf, which was kept as bait near the place where the person was killed. It is the second time the leopard managed to come near the bait when the patrolling team was looking for it elsewhere. The patrolling team will be concentrating in this area and try to tranquilise the leopard.

The department has set up cages in different locations besides fixing cameras. Forest officials, along with police and volunteers, have been patrolling the area during the day to prevent attacks on farmers in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, a leopard, which was on the prowl in villages around Tumbinakere reserve forest in Hadagali taluk, was trapped on Sunday.

The leopard had killed sheep, goats, dogs and cattle in Veerapur, Tumbinakere Sanna and Dodda tandas, Beerabbi and surrounding places besides being spotted on a couple of occasions. Following complaints from fear-stricken villagers, the Forest Department had kept cages at various places and the leopard got trapped in one of them.

The trapped leopard, after a medical check up, would be shifted to Bannerghatta sanctuary, according to officials.
