July 24, 2012 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - Belgaum:

Assistant Director of Agriculture D.B. Chavan has issued show-cause notices to eight fertilizer dealers for allegedly selling their stocks in violation of the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985.

According to the order, no dealer, manufacturer, importer or pool handling agency shall sell or offer for sale any fertilizer at a price exceeding the maximum price or rate fixed by the government. During surprise inspections conducted at various outlets by the Agriculture Department, it was found that some of the dealers were selling fertilizers at higher prices than those fixed by the government.

Subsequently, the department issued show-cause notices to Krishi Kendras at Kudremani and Mutaga; Prakash Fetilizers, and Dhanalaxmi Fertilizers, Yellur; Bhoomi Krishi Seva Kendra, Peerajwadi; Jinendra Fertilizers, Basavana Kudachi; Bovi Krishi Seva Kendra, Sambra; and Prajapati Fertilizers, Machche.

Mr. Chavan asked farmers to inform the department about any such instances, in person or by calling 0831-2466645.
