The Shiradi Ghat stretch of National Highway 75 will be closed again for the second phase of the work on strengthening it, which is likely to begin very soon.

The stretch had been closed for more than seven months for completing the first phase of strengthening a stretch of 11.77 km. Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa on Thursday told presspersons that the work might start anytime as the tender process had been completed.

The Minister said that he would be inviting Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari to participate in the programme that would be organised for the launch of the work. “Soon, I will be meeting the Union Minister to invite him for the programme,” Mr. Mahadevappa said. Regarding the closure of the stretch for vehicles, the Minister said officials were of the opinion that the work could not be taken up without closing the stretch. However, a team of experts would first inspect and then arrive at a decision. “We will work out a mechanism wherein public will face least possible inconvenience,” he said.

The second phase of the work includes asphalting of a 21-km. stretch and putting a concrete layer on another 12.38-km. stretch at a cost of Rs. 85.28 crore. In the first phase, a stretch of 11.77 km. had been strengthened at a cost of Rs. 69.9 crore. It was opened for vehicles in the first week of August.

The work is likely to start anytime from now as the tender process has been completed.

H.C. Mahadevappa,

Minister for Public Works
