Shepherd killed in crocodile attack

A 58-year-old shepherd was killed after being attacked by a crocodile on the banks of the Bhima near Gudur village in Yadgir taluk on Sunday.

The shepherd was identified as Basavalingappa of Gudur village.

The crocodile attacked him when he went to drink water from the river.

According to residents, the Bhima has almost dried owing to poor inflow and the crocodile came out from the water in search of food and attacked the shepherd.

The victim lost his left arm and right leg in the attack and he died of bleeding, sources said.

Residents have urged the Forest Department to implement preventive measures in the area. They also sought release of compensation to the family of the victim.

A case has been registered in the Saidapur Police Station.
