Setback for the Reddys

September 14, 2011 08:58 am | Updated August 03, 2016 11:03 pm IST - BELLARY:

The Reddy brothers of Bellary, who are in the eye of a storm for their alleged illegal mining activities, have suffered yet another setback with the State Government withdrawing permission to grant government revenue land to G. Karunakara Reddy, the former Minister for Revenue and also to G. Lakshmi Aruna, wife of G. Janardhan Reddy. An order to this effect was passed by the Revenue Department on September 6, signed by H.G. Lakshminarayan, Under Secretary to the Government.

In September 2009, the Government had given permission for allotment of 17 cents of land on Sirguppa Road to Mr. Karunakara Reddy for the purpose of constructing a house. Similarly, in April 2010 the Government gave permission to allot 0.38 cents of land adjacent to their existing palatial mansion, to Ms. Lakshmi Aruna. After allotment, the two had got their names included in the revenue records.

K.C. Kondaiah, Congress leader and MLC, objected to the allotment of government land for residential purpose saying it violated norms. He had also planned to lodge a complaint with the Lokayukta. As directed, Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas wrote a letter to the Government in August 2011 providing all details about the allotments.
