The 130th foundation day ceremony of Karnatak Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVS), one of the premier cultural organisations, would be held here on Saturday.

KVS general secretary Prakash Udakeri told presspersons here on Thursday that KVS, which came into existence in 1889, has been working tirelessly to keep alive the aspirations of Kannadigas and has been launching a series of protests whenever injustice is meted out to Kannadigas. As part of the 130th anniversary, the KVS has planned programmes for seven days, he said.

Kannada actor Doddanna will inaugurate the programme at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. Dingaleshwar Swami of Balehosur will grace the occasion, and KVS president Patil Puttappa will preside over the programme. This will be followed by cultural programmes where Nrutya Niketan artistes from Kodavur in Udupi will perform under the direction of Sripad Bhat.

On all seven days, programmes will begin at 5.30 p.m. There will be dance, drama, classical dance, cultural evening, laughter show, folklore fest, children’s music programme, classical music show, and several other programmes. Every day, senior writers and young achievers will be felicitated, he added.

The valedictory will be held at Dr. Girish Karnad Vedike on the sangha premises on July 26 at 5.30 p.m.

Professor Harsha Dambal will be the chief guest. District judge Jinadutt Desai (retired) will preside over the programme. This will be followed by a vocal concert by Gayatri Tonapi and Veena Badiger, Mr. Udakeri said.
