B. Manjamma Jogati, president of Karnataka Janapada Academy, has stressed upon the need to put an end to gender discrimination and to create more opportunities for transgenders and neglected communities.

She spoke after inaugurating a two-day national seminar on Neglected Communities and Social Justice, organized by the Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Study and Research Centre of Kuvempu University at Shankaraghatta on Tuesday. Both B.R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram fought for equality and influenced people to fight against injustice. Following their principles would be the right way to respect them, she said.

K.M. Metry said that tribals and nomadic people should be brought into the mainstream through constant efforts. They need education and employment opportunities. The government should work out policies with such communities in focus.

Arun Joladakudligi released a book of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s speeches in Kannada. B.P. Veerabhadrappa, Vice-Chancellor, folk singer Jogila Siddaraju, journalist B.V. Srinath, coordinator of the study centre M.R. Satya Prakash and others were present.
