Employees working in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya (KGBV) staged a demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Friday demanding that their services be regularised.

The employees alleged that wardens, teachers, accountants, cooks, watchmen and other staff working in the schools on a temporary basis were deprived of various facilities offered to the regular employees.

Low pay

“KGBV schools have been started under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for ensuring literacy in rural areas. The teaching and non-teaching staff working on a temporary basis in these schools are finding it difficult to manage with low remunerations in the days of inflation. We demand that their services are regularised,” Manjula, district vice-president of KGBV Temporary Employees Association said during the protest.

She added that the government was violating the Minimum Wages Act by paying only Rs. 3,150 per month to cooks and watchmen.

A memorandum, addressed to the Union Minister for Human Resources Development, was submitted to the office of Deputy Commissioner.
