Scholarships for children of convicts

The authorities at the Ballari Central Jail have been functioning as facilitators to help the children of convicts get scholarships.

Continuing education

Scholarships were being given to the children of the convicts with the help of the District Child Protection Committee and Janodaya Trust, Bengaluru, to enable them to continue their education.

The facility was introduced in 2013-14 and 86 children were given a total of Rs. 2.35 lakh as scholarships. In the subsequent year, a total of Rs. 4.35 lakh was distributed as scholarships to 141 children.

The jail authorities said that inmates from districts such as Koppal, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Raichur, Tumakuru, Bengaluru, Kolar and Chickballapur, too were submitting applications seeking scholarships and they were being forwarded to the Child Protection Committees of respective districts.
