Employees of the State Bank of Mysore went on a strike in Mysuru on Thursday protesting the proposed merger of the five associate banks with the parent State Bank of India.

All the branches of the SBM and other associate banks of the SBI were closed for public transaction and the employees assembled in front of the main office of the SBM at Nehru Circle and staged a ‘dharna’. The strike was called by the State Sector Bank Employees Association and supported by the SBM Employees Union.

The office bearers of the SSBEA perceived that the SBI Management had taken a rigid stance on issues of enhancing housing loan to staff. Their other demand pertained to compassionate appointment scheme introduced in the associate banks which was reckoned to be not in tune with the proposal approved by the Government of India.

Their other demands included recruitment of sub-staff and part-time employees, not to impose the SBI service conditions and career progression scheme in the associate banks and enhancement of overdraft limits.
