Sastra varsity wins moot court contest

Students of the Sastra University of Thanjavur bagged the championship at the 18th S. C. Javali National Moot Court competition, which concluded at Karnatak University in Dharwad on Sunday.

Students of the Sastra University of Thanjavur won the championship of the 18th S.C. Javali National Moot Court competition organised by Karnatak University’s Sir Siddappa Kambali Law College University, which concluded here on Sunday.

Students of BMS Law College, Bengaluru, emerged the runner-up.

‘Tool to raise awareness’

The former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha, who presented prizes to the winners, said that legal education should be used as a tool to create awareness in society about the Constitutional rights, privileges and duties of citizens to safeguard multiculturalism in the nation.

Kalburgi murder

Expressing regrets over the murder of Kannada writer M.M. Kalburgi and the Dadri lynching incident, Mr. Lodha said that people should develop an attitude to condemn such incidents.

Mr. Lodha called upon the students to show greater commitment to ensuring justice to all in their professional life.
