The Bindiganavile police conducted a drive at Sathenahalli lake bed on Tuesday and seized two sand-laden trucks and an earthmover used in illegal extraction of sand from there.

According to the police, the illegal extraction of sand from the lake bed was going on for the past several months and affecting the lives of local people.

Following a few complaints of such activities, the police launched a drive against it in the early hours of Tuesday.

However, no arrests were made as the persons allegedly involved in sand extraction escaped from the spot on seeing the police.

The police have launched a drive to identify the drivers and owners of the vehicles, a senior police official told presspersons here on Wednesday.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 in Bindiganavile police station.

The Nagamangala taluk administration had banned sand extraction from lake and river beds. In spite of imposing the ban, illegal sand extraction was rampant in different parts of the taluk.
