The K.R. Pet Town police conducted a special drive at Bommanayakanahalli Gate on K.R.Pet-Melkote road in the district and seized three trucks that were illegally ferrying sand. But no arrests could be made as the men in the trucks fled the scene on seeing the police party.

According to senior police officials, sub-inspector H.N. Vinay led the team that conducted the drive on Friday. The accused persons were transporting illegally extracted sand, either from a riverbed or tank/waterbody, in the trucks.

“We will carry out a detailed investigation to trace the drivers and their nexus with the illegal sand extractors,” a senior police officer said.

A case has been registered against the unknown persons under certain provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act- 1957 and the Karnataka Minor Mineral Concession Rules (KMMCR) 1994.
