The two-day 10th district-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelana resolved to request the State government to create a new district out of Belagavi with Athani as its headquarters.
The other resolutions adopted at the end of the meet were to demand early implementation of the Basaveshwar Lift Irrigation Scheme, establishment of IIT in Belagavi, and a focused approach to find effective solutions to improve the economic conditions of farmers and prevent their suicides.
Farmers’ issues
The government should devote sufficient time to discuss the problems of farmers in the forthcoming 10-day monsoon session of the legislature to be held in Belagavi from June 29, they said.
District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Ye. Ru. Patil, who was present at the valedictory function of the meet, promised to take up these resolutions with the government.
The event was organised by Belagavi District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and held under the presidentship of writer Basavaraj Jagajampi at Athani on Friday and Saturday.
The former Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Athani, Laxman Savadi, was the chairman of the reception committee of the literary meet.
