R. Roshan Baig, senior Congress leader and Shivajinagar MLA, who was suspended from the party on June 18 on charges of anti-party activities, is now all set to resign both as a legislator and from the party.
It is strongly rumoured that he would soon join the BJP.
Mr. Baig, over the past few months, had been accusing State party leaders of being responsible for the party’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls. His suspension came in the backdrop of his alleged role in the I Monetary Advisory (IMA) scam that has left thousands of investors in dire straits.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Mr. Baig said he would not attend the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting convened on Tuesday. “I will soon resign as a legislator and as a party worker,” he said.
Not ruling out that he will join the BJP in the coming days, he said, “I am busy seeing off Haj pilgrims since yesterday in my capacity as the chairman of the Karnataka Haj Committee. I will take a call on my next political move in the coming days.”
