Heavy rain continued to pound the district on Monday owing to which major rivers here are in spate.

The inflow of water to Linganamakki reservoir that was at the rate of 25,504 cusecs on Sunday enhanced to 41,645 cusecs on Monday. As the water level has reached 1,813 ft against the maximum level of 1,819 ft, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) issued the final flood warning.

In a press release, KPCL said if the inflow continued at the same rate, water would be released from the reservoir to the Sharavati at any time. Those residing in low lying areas on river bank have been asked to move to safer places.

Owing to the incessant downpour in the catchment areas of Bhadra reservoir, water, at the rate of 31,101 cusecs is being released to the river.

As the water level in the river has risen, traffic along the bridge constructed across it near the bus terminal of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation in Bhadravati city has been suspended as a precautionary measure. The Tunga was also near the danger mark in Shivamogga city as water at the rate of 54,393 cusecs was being discharged to it from the reservoir near Gajanur.

In view of the heavy rains, the Department of Public Instruction declared a holiday for schools in Tirthahalli and Hosanagar taluks on Tuesday.

Holiday extended

The district administration has extended the holidays for educational institutions in Kodagu till August 14 owing to the forecast by the Met Department of heavy rain.
