Restrictions on mediapersons in Vidhana Soudha

With a view to ensure what he called “smooth functioning of offices in the Vidhana Soudha”, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said that movement of mediapersons in the State Secretariat will be restricted.

A separate room will be made available for the media on the premises, he said.

Irked by mediapersons approaching him for bytes and interviews, the Chief Minister said that Ministers are often caught off guard and are ill-prepared for interviews. “In the corridor, you approach Ministers, including me, with your mike. Many of you have complained that you are not getting proper information. So a separate enclosure comprising facilities will be created. You can call anyone you want and get information in this room,” he said.

Brokers and touts

He also said that the Police Department has informed him that public visiting the Vidhana Soudha all through the day was leading to security problems. “It is also causing inconvenience to Ministers and officials. Some brokers/touts have also been caught on CCTV cameras. Everyday, the touts are misleading people. In order to prevent illegal activities, we are taking steps,” he said.

For the record, Mr. Kumaraswamy had before the elections said that he would open the corridors of power to all people without any security inhibitions.
