Residents of Saptagiri Nagar at Yallakkishettar Colony here staged a protest on Monday condemning the action of the municipal authorities to grant permission to erect a mobile tower in their residential area. The residents, including women and children, staged the flash protest demanding that the authorities shift the tower from their area.

Janata Dal (S) leader leader Mohan Arkasali said that a private company had erected the mobile tower despite strong opposition from the residents. He said that neither the municipal authorities nor the representatives of the private company had consulted the local residents before erecting the mobile tower.

“The 40-ft tall tower has been erected in the most unscientific manner in the locality which has black cotton soil causing fear among people. Before the tower can cause damage to life or property, the officials have to shift the tower to another place,” he said.

Mr. Arkasali said that various rules had been flouted while giving permission to the mobile tower. He warned that they would intensify the protest if the mobile tower was not shifted out of the locality.
