Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru, director Narayana observed that research in economics should address demographic issues, as aged population increases while working and youth population decline in the coming years.
He was delivering the valedictory address of the 27th refresher course in economics, organised by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre and Department of Studies in Economics and Cooperation, University of Mysore, on Tuesday.
“Having the largest youth population, India needs to transform it into a working population. The working population needs to contribute in terms of savings and investments in order to accelerate economic growth, and to take care of the dependent population,” he said, in a release.
