The rescue teams in the flood-affected regions of Kodagu, comprising Army personnel and members of the NDRF, the SDRF and the Civil Defence, will stay in the district for a few more days even as the number of relief centres has come down from 51 to 35.

Officials said the teams would continue to be stationed in Kodagu till it was confirmed that there were no more people to be brought to safety. Relief Commissioner Gangaram Baderia on Friday said the situation was under control.

The district administration in the meantime has stepped up its process of identifying land to provide temporary shelters for those affected by the floods and have lost their houses. A preliminary estimate indicates that about 2,200 houses have been damaged.

Buses are plying from Madikeri to Suliya in Dakshina Kannada via Kerala to ensure connectivity to Kodagu.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to establish common service centres to act as a single window to issue duplicate certificates, ID cards, and documents to those who lost them in the floods and landslips. The common service centres will have officials from the departments of Revenue, Civil Supplies, Transport, and Education, and banks deemed appropriate by the authorities to issue the duplicate documents.

Mr. Baderia said the documents would be issued for free or at a nominal cost and there was no need to file an FIR. The UIDAI has instructed the Aadhaar enrolment agencies in the State to facilitate the retrieval of the 12 digit number and provide free printouts to those who have lost their documents in the natural calamity.
