Republic day was celebrated in Bidar on Monday. Ms Umashree, district in-charge minister, unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour by the police and other forces.

The minister said that the government was releasing around Rs. 1,000 crore to Hyderabad Karnataka region for taking up works that were not funded under the annual budget. Of this, Bidar will get around Rs 150 crore in the first phase to take up water and sanitation projects, she said.

She said Rs 10 crore was released for taking up drinking water projects in the five taluks. Additional projects would be taken up in areas that are hard hit by water scarcity, she said. She said the 24X7 water supply scheme in Bidar was complete and trial runs were found successful, she said.

Bhagwant Khuba, MP, MLA Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, MLC Raghunath Malkapure, P.C. Jaffer, deputy commissioner, Sharat Kumar B. ZP chief executive officer, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, SP, and others were present.

Students of various schools presented a variety cultural performance.
