June 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Belagavi District Small Scale Industries Association has urged the Deputy Commissioner to issue a direction to both the Forest Department and Hubballi Electricity Supply Company to remove all the trees which had become a threat to electricity cable lines in the industrial areas of the city immediately.

Association president Venkatesh Sarnobat and honorary secretary Rohan Javali submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram here on Wednesday pointing out that the SSI units in Machhe, Navage and Waghavade industrial areas suffered production/manufacture loss of over Rs.10 crore due to failure of power supply to feeders or transformers installed in these areas.

These electrical installations suffered damages from the trees which fell on them due to storm and rainfall during the last ten days, they said. Failure of electricity supply had contributed to production losses, they said.

The Forest Department should immediately repair the feeders and transformers, and also remove all such trees which pose threat to electrical installations in these industrial areas, Mr. Sarnobat said.
