A.S. Patil Nadahalli, MLA, sought to raise support for a separate north Karnataka State, by meeting his supporters and like-minded leaders in Bidar on Saturday.

He told them that the regional imbalance was getting bigger and bigger over the years.

Report

“The Nanjundappa committee report has not been implemented properly by any government,” he said. I am emotionally in support of a united Karnataka.

But the lack of development of the region is forcing me to think of secession, he said.He told presspersons that he had the tacit support of 40 MLAs. He did not name them. He criticised all leaders from north Karnataka, except S. Nijalingappa and Veerendra Patil, who he said, had taken up development works.

‘Raw deal’

“The people of north Karnataka have had a raw deal. Of the 60 MLAs from here, only 11 were made Ministers by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah. North Karnataka gets only 24 per cent of the power produced by the thermal power station in Raichur. South Karnataka districts get the rest,” he said.
