The State government has decided to do away with recruiting lecturers to government colleges through the Karnataka Public Service Commission and will introduce the Common Entrance Test for selecting lecturers to fill up the vacant posts in government colleges.

Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department Rajneesh Goel in a brief chat with presspersons here on Sunday said that the government has decided to conduct the test through the Karnataka Examination Authority.

Mr. Goel said that the recruitment would be purely based on the marks secured in the test. “There would not be any interaction between the candidates and any government official or others before the recruitment.” He said the notification for the recruitment to 1,298 posts of college lecturers will be issued on Monday and the dates of the test would be announced later.

The roster system and the reservation benefits under Article 371 (J), for candidates from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, would be followed in the recruitments.

All other qualifications required, such as a first-class pass in post graduation and a pass in NET, are retained. The recruitment process is likely to be completed within four months.

Mr. Goel said that the posts of Vice-Chancellor are vacant in six universities in the State and the delay in filling them was due to the delay in forming the search committee, consisting of nominations from the UGC, the Governor, the Syndicate of the respective university and the government. “Now almost all the search committees have been formed the search of the prospective names for the post of Vice-Chancellor is in an advanced stage.”

He said that the search committee for choosing the Vice-Chancellor of Krishnadevaraya University in Ballari will meet on Monday to finalise the panel of names, which would be later submitted to the Governor. Likewise, the committee for choosing the Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University will also meet in a week’s time.

He added that within a month, all the search committees would select the names for all the six universities.
