Set up KAT Bench
in Kalaburagi
Sir, — Belagavi city has been lucky as successive governments have proposed many projects there. Visvesvaraya Technological University, Suvarna Soudha, Rani Channamma University are some of them and the latest is a Bench of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT).
There are two permanent Benches of the Karnataka High Court, one at Dharwad and the other at Kalaburagi. There was a demand for establishment of a Bench of the KAT at these two places and it is rational too as the aggrieved party in the KAT can move the High Court Bench concerned for an appeal.
Now, the decision to establish a Bench of the KAT at Belagavi has annoyed the law fraternity here. They have boycotted court proceedings too. The agitation may gain momentum in the days to come. The government should set up a KAT Bench at Kalaburagi too.
Mudgal Venkatesh,
Kalaburagi
Retirement age
for politicians
Sir, — Politicians should compulsorily retire at the age of 65.
This will pave the way for the young and innovative to be MPs and MLAs. There should also be a two-term limit in office. But this may just not happen as politics in India is no longer a mission, not even an honest profession. It has become a ruthless business, with morals and ethics twisted, thrown to the winds, and long buried deep in the slush of ignorance. Those belonging to a genre of politicians with qualities of head and heart cannot survive today. Goa could show the way in the ensuing 2017 Assembly elections if all political parties can come to a consensus.
Aires Rodrigues,
Goa
