Ravi calls halal meat ‘economic jihad’

Stoking another controversy, BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi on Tuesday called halal food ‘economic jihad’. This comes amidst some right-wing groups now giving a call to boycott halal meat, ahead of ‘varshadodaku’, the day after Ugadi when many communities have a non-vegetarian feast.

Karnataka has over the last fortnight seen some temple authorities banning Muslim vendors around temples during fairs.

Mr. Ravi argued that when Muslims refuse to buy meat from Hindu butchers on the grounds that it is not halal meat, there should be nothing wrong in Hindus not buying meat from Muslims.
