Rain hits life in Shivamogga

Heavy rain pounded the district on Sunday disrupting life.

Cloudy conditions prevailed in Shivamogga and Bhadravati in the morning. The rain commenced at 1 p.m. and continued through the day confining people indoors. Traffic along the Shivamogga-Sagar stretch of NH 206 was disrupted for sometime as a tree had fallen near Anandapuram. The movement of vehicles along the bridge that connects Belur and Madavi villages in Hosanagar taluk was suspended as a stream overflowed there.

Water level in Linganamakki reservoir rose from 1,811 ft on Saturday to 1,812 feet on Sunday. Inflow was at the rate of 25,504 cusecs.

Incessant downpour was reported in catchment areas of Tunga and Bhadra reservoirs. Outflow from Tunga reservoir was at the rate of 28,367 cusecs while water at the rate of 16,101 cusecs was being discharged from Bhadra reservoir to the river.

The Department of Public Instruction declared a holiday for schools in Tirthahalli, Hosanagar, Sagar and Sorab taluks on Monday.
