Rahul Gandhi’s visit of no use: Renukacharya

October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - DAVANGERE:

The recent visit of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will not be useful to farmers as the Congress leader spent two days in the State only by issuing statements against BJP leaders, the former Minister M.P. Renukacharya has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the hopes of farmers of getting a loan waiver during Mr. Gandhi’s visit was completely lost as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made some excuses to escape the embarrassment during the visit of the “high command” and has no real concern for farmers in the State.

So far, 585 farmers have committed suicide in the State, and compensation has been provided only to 106 families of farmers. The remaining families should also be given compensation as early as possible, he urged.

The All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh issued notices to 12 Ministers of the party in the State for remaining absent during Mr. Gandhi’s visit. But the party high command has not issued even a single notice to Ministers for not reviewing the drought situation in their respective districts, he alleged.

Mr. Renukacharya also alleged that Home Minister K.J. George was issuing irresponsible statements over sensitive issues including the rape of a girl in Bengaluru. The Congress should issue strict instructions to such leaders and try to maintain law and order in the State, he said.
