Quota for Kannada-medium students in border villages

July 17, 2011 02:38 pm | Updated 02:38 pm IST - RAICHUR:

The Government has released a notification announcing reservation for students from Kannada-medium schools in border villages of Andhra Pradesh seeking admission to government colleges, industrial training institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics from this academic year.

According to Deputy Commissioner V. Anbukkumar, the Department of Kannada and Culture has issued the notification to the district administration to this effect.

He told The Hindu that the notification would help non-Karnataka students studying in Kannada medium schools in 13 border villages of Andhra Pradesh. Welcoming the Government's move, Vinod Reddy, president of the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, said for the past four decades, students studying in non-Karnataka schools in the border villages were struggling for reservation to pursue higher education in the State. The notification issued by the Government would help them, he added.
