The first-ever ‘Book Dasara’ (Pustaka Dasara), which began ahead of the Dasara celebrations here last month, has managed to collect 1,500 books from donors for free distribution among needy libraries in schools and colleges . The initiative was launched by a group of librarians associated with Mysore Librarians and Information Scientists’ Association (MyLISA) with the support of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore.

Donors could drop the books at collection centres from September 5 to 25.

Autobiographies, books on chemistry, computer science, English literature, economics, engineering, food science, general knowledge, history, Kannada literature, medical science, philosophy, physics religion, political science and fiction had been collected.

The books will be exhibited and distributed to interested schools and colleges on October 13 at 9.30 a.m. Former Vice-Chancellor S. Indumathi will inaugurate the exhibition and donation camp at the new DIRC building, Mysore University Library, Manasagangotri, Mysore.

MyLISA secretary N.S. Harinarayana told The Hindu that each library would get at least 50 books depending on the number of donations. The representatives of the institutions have to make their own arrangements for shifting the books to their respective libraries. Those who wish to get the books must register their names with M.V. Sunil on 9986439832 before October 13. Of the 1,500 books, 500 are children’s books. The list of books is available on MyLISA website www. mylisamysore.weebly.com
