An 18-year-old boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the premises of a private college in Hassan on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified by the police as Pruthvi, son of Vishwanath, a resident of Sakleshpur.

The parents have expressed suspicion that their son might have been murdered. Mr. Pruthvi was studying in first PU at St Joseph’s College in Hassan.

He was staying in the college hostel. The hostel authorities informed his parents on January 17 that Pruthvi was missing from the hostel. His father filed a missing complaint with the Sakleshpur police on the same day.

However, the missing boy was found dead on Tuesday. The college authorities had noticed the body and informed the police. The police have taken two of his classmates into custody for investigation.

According to sources in the police station, the two accused had pushed Pruthvi into a pit, where he died of asphyxiation. The reason for their act was a quarrel over a mobile phone handset, sources said.
